What to expect before your session.

Reaching out for support can feel like a big step, and it’s completely normal to feel a little nervous about starting counselling for the first time. The first step is a free 20-minute phone consultation where we can briefly discuss what support you are looking for, any questions you may have, and whether we feel like the right fit to work together.

All counselling sessions are held online via secure Zoom video conferencing, allowing you to access support from the comfort and privacy of your own space. Counselling sessions are approximately 50 minutes long. During our sessions, we will work together at a pace that feels comfortable for you, focusing on the areas you would like support with. You will never be pressured into discussing anything you do not feel ready for.

Appointments

Appointments are typically scheduled weekly, however session frequency can be tailored to suit your individual needs and circumstances. You will receive an appointment reminder prior to your session. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide at least 48 hours’ notice where possible. Late cancellations or missed appointments may incur the full session fee, although exceptions may be considered in unforeseen circumstances.

Confidentiality is an important part of the counselling process. All sessions are kept private and confidential, with the exception of situations where there are legal or ethical concerns regarding safety or risk of harm to yourself or others. The wellbeing and safety of children and young people will always remain a priority in accordance with New Zealand legal and ethical guidelines.
